About
ΛΧΑ (Lambda Chi Alpha), headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, is one of the largest men’s general fraternities in North America with more than 250,000 initiated members and chapters (Zetas) at more than 300 universities. It was founded by Warren A. Cole, while he was a student at Boston University, on November 2, 1909. The youngest of the twenty largest college fraternities, Lambda Chi Alpha has initiated the third most men ever.
It was the first fraternity to eliminate pledging and remains a leader in the fight against hazing, alcohol abuse, and other challenges facing today’s college students.
Lambda Chi Alpha seeks to complement higher education by providing opportunities for academic achievement, leadership development, and lifelong friendships. Its open mottos are Vir Quisque Vir (Latin) Every Man a Man; Per Crucem Crescens (Latin) Crescent in the Cross; and Kalepa Ta Kala (Greek) Naught Without Labor.
The vision of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity is to prepare and encourage collegiate men of good character, high ethics, and noble ideals to contribute positively to the world in which they live. Lambda Chi Alpha’s mission is to offer the best fraternal experience, focusing on personal character development through leadership, scholarship, community service, and positive social experiences.
Lambda Chi Alpha is equality. Lambda Chi Alpha was the first fraternity to abolish “pledges” when associate membership replaced pledging in 1972. Since that time, associate members have had full and equal rights in the chapter, including voting privileges and the ability to hold office, attend all meetings and functions, and wear the letters and regalia of the Fraternity.
Lambda Chi Alpha is brotherhood. In a very real sense, the Fraternity creates a family relationship among its members. It aims to bring together a group of young men who will be congenial, loyal, and helpful to one another during some of the best years of their lives-the college years. Thus Lambda Chi Alpha offers its members the nearest possible equivalent to home that can be found on the college campus, and these close ties often bind men in friendships for life.

We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha, and its traditions, principles and ideals. The crescent is our symbol; pure, high, ever growing, and the cross is our guide; denoting service, sacrifice, and even suffering and humiliation before the world, bravely endured if need be, in following that ideal.
May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha and passion for its welfare. May we have hope for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha and strength to fight for its teachings. May we have pure hearts that we may approach the ideal of perfect brotherly love.
How we did it…
This site began as a simple rush project back in January 2006 under the leadership of EJ Vincent. Previous design attempts were poorly maintained and were difficult to update (if you can remember that far back, one was actually created completely using Flash). Our organization required something less static. Trying out the less popular project TextPattern, set us on the right path to what we really needed: a CMS. Our implementation won an award at the ??? General Assembly in 2006.
That version did not last long though as Wordpress entered the foray. Wordpress’ functionality, extendability, and authoring tools made it an easy choice (they also has a great collection of plugins) to completely overhaul the TextPattern based site. The joy of starting from scratch is that it allowed us to rethink the arrangement and organization of our content. This redesign broke out of previous molds that were restricting growth before. Articles are now categorized, archived, and search-able. RSS is now available for you XML lovers whom wanted to track changes in content before but were unable.
