Brothers and visitors to the website, I want to call your attention to a pending piece of legislation.
The Collegiate Housing and Infrastructure Act (H.R. 643/S. 638) (http://www.theorator.com/bills110/text/hr643.html) would permit tax deductible donations to 501(c)(3) organizations for improvements to collegiate housing. Basically the legislation would permit donations to both LCAP and local housing corporations to be used for house improvements. This would be a great benefit to fraternities and sororities in that it would make donations to improve our chapters houses tax deductible. Donations, such as those that went to renovating the Dirghalli Library would have been tax deductible had this legislation been in place.
I ask each of you to contact your Representatives and Senators and voice your support for this legislation. The Capital Fraternal Caucus website (http://www.fraternalcaucus.org) provides a link to write your member of Congress. This legislation has come up before, but has not passed because we did not clearly indicate to our Representatives that we need it. Take a few minutes out of your day to ensure the future of Greek housing and to help better your chapter.

Enter in your personal information and especially make sure you have the zip code right. The next page following that will bring you to the letter, first one is sent to our two senators and the second one our representative(s). You have an empty box for the introduction. I used that space to personalize the message a bit, explaining who I was, and why this particular legislation is important - of course, the recent renovation of the Dirghalli Library and Conference room. It’s really easy and took maybe a few minutes at most. I encourage everyone to do this.

After talking to Tony Dunn today, the local chapter and Housing corp. are not 501(c)(3) organizations. The Lambda Chi Alpha Educational Foundation however is. I’m sure that if this legistlation passes a policy for sending donations to individual chapters will be developed.
